Pollen Allergy Symptoms

Pollen is just one of many particles that become suspended in the air we breathe. It can often be difficult to differentiate between pollen allergy symptoms and cold symptoms.

When you inhale pollen, it acts as an irritant and causes mast cells in your nasal passages to release chemicals. This can result in inflammation and increased mucous secretions.

Pollen allergy symptoms are immune system responses triggered by an overreaction to certain substances, and can be mild or severe depending on your sensitivity.

If your symptoms seem to be worse during certain seasons such as in the spring when trees are pollinating or in the summer when grass and weeds are pollinating. These are good indications that you have a pollen allergy.

Some pollen allergy symptoms are congestion, sneezing, itching and irritated throat, hoarseness and loss of voice, runny nose, itchy nose, itchy and watery eyes, swollen and red eyelids, dark circles under your eyes which is caused by increased blood flow near the sinuses, and fatigue.

Your pollen allergy symptoms may be a result of a tree pollen allergy, grass pollen allergy or weed pollen allergy.

Here are some of the steps you can take to reduce your pollen allergy symptoms.

•  Reduce the amount of pollen entering your home by keeping your doors and windows closed during pollen season.

•  Use efficient filters in your central air conditioning system, Electronic air filters, Electrostatic air filters and Hepa air filters are over 90 percent efficient. The electrostatic filter is probably your best choice because it is the easiest one to upgrade to. Standard fiberglass filters are usually less than 10 percent efficient and not worth using.

•  Because pets carry pollen in from outside, it is best to keep them well groomed.

•  Use a cloth dryer instead of hanging your laundry on the cloth line.

•  Use Air Purifiers to help keep airborne allergen levels at a minimum.

The less exposure you have to pollen the better you will be able to manage your pollen allergy symptoms.
